I am a selfish selfish sewer

I have a late Christmas gift to give.  Remember the wool quilt I was working on over Thanksgiving? Well, it is completed and has been for two weeks now.  I just have to put the binding on.  And I have T-H-E perfect fabric to use:

It’s a beautiful brick red, vintage, crushed velvet that I bought over a year ago from the fabulous Urban Burp in San Francisco.

It matches the red in the quilt perfectly, is the perfect texture, has a nice tight weave on the back that will hold up well on a binding and feels just lovely in contrast with the cosy wool of the quilt.

And, I cannot seem to part with it.  It’s a gift and I am just not sure that the recipients will really use it.  I made a quilt for their daughter years ago and have never seen it since.  So, I think I have to sacrifice my artistic integrity and find another fabric put on the binding, keep the lovely creation for us and make them something else in a hurry!

Thanks for the tutorial above, I need to make something similar to hold mail, etc., near my front door. This post though made me smile though, because I’ve been in similar tricky situations… it’s hard to judge whether someone will really appreciate all your hard work!
